ಬಿಲ್ವಾಷ್ಟಕಂ
ಶಿವನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಿಯವಾದ ಬಿಲ್ವಪತ್ರೆಯ ಮಹಿಮೆಯ ಎಂಟು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು. ಮಹಾಶಿವರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಅಭಿಷೇಕ-ಪೂಜೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಠಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
Eight verses on the glory of the bilva leaf, dearest to Shiva. Recited during Maha Shivaratri abhisheka and pooja.

ತ್ರಿದಳಂ ತ್ರಿಗುಣಾಕಾರಂ ತ್ರಿನೇತ್ರಂ ಚ ತ್ರಿಯಾಯುಧಮ್ | ತ್ರಿಜನ್ಮಪಾಪಸಂಹಾರಂ ಏಕಬಿಲ್ವಂ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣಮ್ || ೧ ||

ಅರ್ಥ · Meaning
ಮೂರು ದಳ, ತ್ರಿಗುಣಾಕಾರ, ತ್ರಿನೇತ್ರ, ತ್ರಿಆಯುಧ ಸ್ವರೂಪವಾದ, ಮೂರು ಜನ್ಮಗಳ ಪಾಪಹರ ಒಂದು ಬಿಲ್ವವನ್ನು ಶಿವನಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.
One bilva leaf — three-petalled like the three gunas, the three eyes and three weapons, destroying the sins of three births — I offer to Shiva.
ತ್ರಿಶಾಖೈರ್ಬಿಲ್ವಪತ್ರೈಶ್ಚ ಹ್ಯಚ್ಛಿದ್ರೈಃ ಕೋಮಲೈಃ ಶುಭೈಃ | ಶಿವಪೂಜಾಂ ಕರಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಏಕಬಿಲ್ವಂ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣಮ್ || ೨ ||

ಅರ್ಥ · Meaning
ರಂಧ್ರವಿಲ್ಲದ, ಕೋಮಲ, ಶುಭವಾದ ಮೂರು ದಳದ ಬಿಲ್ವಪತ್ರೆಗಳಿಂದ ಶಿವಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ — ಒಂದು ಬಿಲ್ವ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣ.
With unbroken, tender, auspicious three-leaved bilva I shall worship Shiva — one bilva offered to Shiva.
ಅಖಂಡಬಿಲ್ವಪತ್ರೇಣ ಪೂಜಿತೇ ನಂದಿಕೇಶ್ವರೇ | ಶುದ್ಧ್ಯಂತಿ ಸರ್ವಪಾಪೇಭ್ಯಃ ಏಕಬಿಲ್ವಂ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣಮ್ || ೩ ||

ಅಖಂಡ ಬಿಲ್ವಪತ್ರದಿಂದ ನಂದಿಕೇಶ್ವರನನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸಿದರೆ ಸಕಲ ಪಾಪಗಳೂ ನಾಶ — ಒಂದು ಬಿಲ್ವ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣ.
Worshipping Nandikeshwara with an unbroken bilva leaf destroys all sins — one bilva offered to Shiva.
ಸಾಲಗ್ರಾಮಶಿಲಾಮೇಕಾಂ ಜಾತು ವಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಯೋಽರ್ಪಯೇತ್ | ಸೋಮಯಜ್ಞಮಹಾಪುಣ್ಯಂ ಏಕಬಿಲ್ವಂ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣಮ್ || ೪ ||
salagramasilamekam jatu vipraya yo'rpayet | somayajnamahapunyam ekabilvam sivarpanam || 4 ||
ಅರ್ಥ · Meaning
ಒಂದು ಸಾಲಗ್ರಾಮ ಶಿಲಾದಾನ, ವಿಪ್ರದಾನ, ಸೋಮಯಜ್ಞ ಮಹಾಪುಣ್ಯ — ಇವೆಲ್ಲದರ ಫಲ ಒಂದು ಬಿಲ್ವಾರ್ಪಣೆಗೆ ಸಮ.
The merit of gifting a shaligrama stone to a brahmin or of a great soma sacrifice equals one bilva offered to Shiva.
ದಂತಿಕೋಟಿಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ವಾಜಪೇಯಶತಾನಿ ಚ | ಕೋಟಿಕನ್ಯಾಮಹಾದಾನಾಂ ಏಕಬಿಲ್ವಂ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣಮ್ || ೫ ||

ಅರ್ಥ · Meaning
ಸಾವಿರ ಕೋಟಿ ಗಜದಾನ, ಅಶ್ವಮೇಧ ಶತಯಜ್ಞ, ಕೋಟಿ ಕನ್ಯಾದಾನ — ಇವುಗಳ ಫಲವೂ ಒಂದು ಬಿಲ್ವಾರ್ಪಣೆಗೆ ಸಮ.
The fruit of gifting thousands of crores of elephants, a hundred horse sacrifices or crores of kanyadana equals one bilva offering.
ಪಾರ್ವತ್ಯಾಃ ಸ್ವೇದಸಂಜಾತಂ ಮಹಾದೇವಸ್ಯ ಚ ಪ್ರಿಯಮ್ | ಬಿಲ್ವವೃಕ್ಷಂ ನಮಸ್ಯಾಮಿ ಏಕಬಿಲ್ವಂ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣಮ್ || ೬ ||

ಪಾರ್ವತಿಯ ಸ್ವೇದದಿಂದ ಉದ್ಭವಿಸಿದ, ಮಹಾದೇವನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಿಯವಾದ ಬಿಲ್ವವೃಕ್ಷವನ್ನು ನಮಿಸಿ ಒಂದು ಬಿಲ್ವವನ್ನು ಶಿವನಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.
Born of Parvati's sacred sweat and beloved of Mahadeva — I bow to the bilva tree and offer one bilva to Shiva.

ಬಿಲ್ವವೃಕ್ಷದ ದರ್ಶನ-ಸ್ಪರ್ಶನ ಮಾತ್ರದಿಂದಲೇ ಸರ್ವಪಾಪ ನಾಶ — ಒಂದು ಬಿಲ್ವ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣ.
Merely seeing or touching the bilva tree destroys all sins — one bilva offered to Shiva.
ಮೂಲತೋ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮರೂಪಾಯ ಮಧ್ಯತೋ ವಿಷ್ಣುರೂಪಿಣೇ | ಅಗ್ರತಃ ಶಿವರೂಪಾಯ ಏಕಬಿಲ್ವಂ ಶಿವಾರ್ಪಣಮ್ || ೮ ||
mulato brahmarupaya madhyato visnurupine | agratah sivarupaya ekabilvam sivarpanam || 8 ||
ಅರ್ಥ · Meaning
ಬುಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ, ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಷ್ಣು, ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವ — ಹೀಗೆ ತ್ರಿಮೂರ್ತಿ ಸ್ವರೂಪವಾದ ಬಿಲ್ವವೃಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ.
At its root Brahma, in its middle Vishnu, at its crest Shiva himself — I bow to the bilva tree, form of the Trinity.
ಬಿಲ್ವಾಷ್ಟಕಮಿದಂ ಪುಣ್ಯಂ ಯಃ ಪಠೇಚ್ಛಿವಸನ್ನಿಧೌ | ಸರ್ವಪಾಪವಿನಿರ್ಮುಕ್ತಃ ಶಿವಲೋಕಮವಾಪ್ನುಯಾತ್ || ೯ ||
bilvastakamidam punyam yah pathecchivasannidhau | sarvapapavinirmuktah sivalokamavapnuyat || 9 ||
ಅರ್ಥ · Meaning
ಈ ಬಿಲ್ವಾಷ್ಟಕವನ್ನು ಶಿವಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಠಿಸುವವನು ಸರ್ವಪಾಪ ವಿಮುಕ್ತನಾಗಿ ಶಿವಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.
Whoever recites this Bilvashtakam before Shiva is freed from all sins and attains Shiva's abode.
