Varamahalakshmi Vrata

The great Friday vrata for Lakshmi's grace — prosperity, health and family wellbeing.

When: Second Friday / Friday before the full moon of Shravana

Samagri you'll need

  • Kalasha, coconut, mango leaves
  • Lakshmi face/idol, new saree
  • Rice, coins, lotus
  • Doradarshana (yellow thread)
  • 12 varieties of naivedya

Step by step

  1. 1

    Kalasha sthapana

    Decorate the kalasha with a Lakshmi face, saree and ornaments; place on rice.

  2. 2

    Achamana & sankalpa

    Purify and state the vrata sankalpa.

  3. 3

    Aavahana & shodashopachara

    Invoke Mahalakshmi into the kalasha and worship with sixteen upacharas.

    Doradarshana

    Worship and tie the sacred nine-knot yellow thread on the wrist.

    Vrata katha, ashtottara & aarti

    Recite the Lakshmi ashtottara, read the katha, offer naivedya and mangalarati.

  6. 6

    Vayana

    Offer vayana to sumangalis.
