Daily worship of the sacred Tulasi and the annual Tulasi vivaha / Kartika pooja.

When: Daily (esp. dawn/dusk); Tulasi Vivaha in Kartika (Utthana Dwadashi)

Samagri you'll need

  • Tulasi plant / Brindavana
  • Lamp, water
  • Kumkuma, flowers
  • For vivaha: Krishna/Salagrama, sugarcane, amla

Step by step

  1. 1

    Prokshana & pradakshina

    Offer water, light a lamp and circumambulate the Tulasi.

  2. 2

    Archana

    Offer kumkuma and flowers with Tulasi namaskara mantras.

  3. 3

    Deepa (dusk)

    Light a lamp before the Tulasi at dusk, especially in Kartika.

  4. 4

    Tulasi Vivaha (annual)

    Perform the symbolic marriage of Tulasi with Krishna/Salagrama on Utthana Dwadashi.

Note: Especially central to Madhwa and Srivaishnava households.
