Navaratri Golu / Bombe Habba

The nine-night display of dolls (golu/bombe) with daily Devi worship and haldi-kumkum.

Samagri you'll need

  • Golu padi (odd steps) & dolls
  • Kalasha (Kalasha bombe)
  • Navadhanya, new saree
  • Sundal, naivedya
  • Haldi-kumkum, tamboola

Step by step

  1. 1

    Kalasha & golu arrangement

    Set the kalasha and arrange the dolls on odd-numbered steps.

  2. 2

    Daily Devi pooja

    Worship Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati across the nine nights with ashtottara/parayana.

  3. 3

    Haldi-kumkum & tamboola

    Invite sumangalis; offer haldi-kumkum, sundal and tamboola.

  4. 4

    Saraswati & Ayudha pooja

    Worship books/instruments (Saraswati) and tools/vehicles (Ayudha) on the 9th day.

  5. 5

    Vijayadashami

    Conclude on Dashami — start of learning (Vidyarambha) and symbolic doll 'putting to sleep'.

Note: Called Golu in Tamil, Bombe Habba / Gombe in Kannada, Bommala Koluvu in Telugu.
