The month-long dawn worship of Vishnu in Dhanurmasa with Andal's Tiruppavai — beloved of Srivaishnavas.

  • Krishna/Ranganatha idol
  • Tulasi, flowers
  • Huggi / pongal, akkaravadisal naivedya
  • Rangoli (haridina)

Step by step

  1. 1

    Dawn worship

    Rise before sunrise, draw rangoli, and begin the pooja early.

  2. 2

    Tiruppavai / Tiruvempavai

    Recite the day's pasuram of Andal's Tiruppavai (and Tiruvempavai).

  3. 3

    Shodashopachara & naivedya

    Worship the Lord and offer the special huggi / akkaravadisal.

  4. 4

    Aarti & prasada

    Perform aarti and distribute prasada.

Note: Central to Iyengar / Srivaishnava homes and temples; concludes with Vaikunta Ekadashi.
